Legendary Canned Heat drummer, Adolfo “Fito” de la Parra always keeps the memory alive of a group which deeply impressed young people and caused a strong impact during the seventies. To do so, he has recruited some effective and reliable musicians who have completely assimilated the original Canned Heat sound. They are Jimmy Vivino on guitars, keyboards and vocals, Richard “Rick” Reed on bass and Dale Spalding on vocals and harmonica.

Singer and guitar player Dave Alvin was invited to play one of the songs the group was preparing, but the recording day he came with an own composition he had written in memory of Canned Heat founder, Alan Wilson. From that came the idea to pay homage to Wilson, a musician who provided a distinctive sound to this blues group, besides writing their most popular songs like “On The Road Again” and “Going Up The Country”. The tittle of Dave Alvin’s song “Blind Owl” included in this eleven tracks album, was Alan Wilson’s nickname. Also mention Joe Bonamassa puts his guitar in the song “So Sad (The World’s In A Tangle)”.

German label Ruf Records is proud to release a new Canned Heat album after publishing the band records for years. It looks like the recording gives some clues that make us think the band has considered to say goodbye, like the album tittle “Finyl Vinyl” (final vinyl) or the songs “One Last Boogie” or “When You’are 69” although, on the other hand, they have announced a tour for 2024 with dates in United States and Europe. Just in case, it’s a good time get a copy of this magnificent blues and boogie recording.
