As many other singers coming from gospel black music, Candi was born on a poor family in Alabama during the fourties but I will not mention her exact birth date because I know many times women do not want to say their age As mamy other little girls she had to pick cotton and help on farm daily tasks, but she soon left the farm and travelled to Cleveland running away from an alcoholic father who turned her mother and Candi lives completely unbearables Her singing career began about 1952 when she joined The Jewel Gospel Trio and recorded for Nashboro Records… but forget the past and come back to the present Candi Staton has the same strenght and vocal expressivity than the greatest divas like Aretha Franklin or Gladys Knight On these two cds you will find twenty two intense powerful well done songs where Candy shows her gospel and soul influences, styles where she feels really ease, but also she includes some more r&b oriented tracks I dare say her superb rich voice and the variety of musical nuances the backing musicians give on their performing will surely move you and tears will come to your eyes like has happened to me A new love has come to my life and she is Miss Candy Staton, the new soul and gospel princess… Lovely!!!
