Singer and guitar player Byther Smith, one of Chicago blues greatest names, comes back to the recording market with an excellent reissue Delmark label has done of an old LP that was recorded on July the 30th 1981 ‘Smithy’ (cousin of legendary JB Lenoir) moved to Chicago when he got married That happened on 1957 and he soon joined singer and guitar player Roy B Hannon’s band as bass player Some time later Hubert Sumlin and Robert Lockwood Jr gave him guitar lessons During the sixties Smith worked as bass or guitar player with Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Otis Rush, Little Walter and many other Windy City legendary bluesmen This cd is a real treasure that you will certainly enjoy any time you listen to it Fifteen small jewels of his usual repertoire, all performed with passion, love, feeling and, over all, with a terrific inspiration It is a cd that should have an important place in your record collection
