Byther Smith was a great man and an original excellent musician of Chicago south side blues style and was one of the most respected versatile and passionate musicians of his time This cd was recorded live together with a DVD that was reviewed in these pages some months ago You will find a convincing Byther Smith on guitar and vocals, perfectly backed by Anthony Palmer on guitar, Daryl Coutts on keyboards, Grez McDaniel on bass and James Carter on drums who do a good work to make Byther Smith shine at a vertçy high level Eleven marvellous, bright and passionate versions of songs that come from JB Lenoir, Little Milton, Big Boy Crudup, Sonny Boy Williamson and, of course, Byther Smith’s own ones, which were recorded at the Chicago Natural Rhythm Social Club, with the special spirit and feeling of an emblematic man who was born for blues called Byther Smith, could give to every blues he played
