With this album Bob Margolin wants to thank and commemorate the fifty years since he joined Muddy Waters’ band, and he does it releasing an album with the simple title of “Thanks”.

In the recording Bob plays the same Gibson electric guitar he used to play backing Muddy Waters, that is also the same one he was playing in the film “The Last Waltz” with the legendary The Band which, together with his voice, is the only instrument you will find in all cd songs, except in “No Consolation”.

Ten songs, two of them written by Muddy Waters, “Going Down To Main Street” and “Lonely Man Blues”, this last one composed by Muddy and Bob together. The rest are covers like “Shape I’m In” coming from The Band, “Who” by Willie Dixon, “Hard Working Man” by Jimmy Rogers, “For You My Love” by Paul Gayten, a song Bob used to play with Pinetop Perkins, plus four Margolin’s own compositions.

Old songs played with that old Gibson that has had a main role in so many legendary performances, songs that get a new feeling thanks to the passion Bob Margolin gives to each one.

In 1980 Bob left Muddy’s band and in 1983 Muddy passed away, possibly feeling quite sad for being no longer backed by those great musicians who had been in his band for about twelve years, he was so proud about. Fortunately, Margolin captures Muddy Waters’ spirit, especially with the slide guitar. That is why Muddy once put his hand on Bob’s shoulder and said to him, “you are keeping the Old School alive”.
