The new album of singer Big Mama Montse and piano player Sister Marion includes a selection of thirteen songs, may be less classic ones than in their previous album but, probably, more intense and varied This time Montse has decided to perform a range of compositions, completely different stylistically, coming from artists like Nina Simone, Julia Lee, Buddy Johnson, Curtis Mayfield, Joe McCoy, Susan Tedeschi and Rudy Toombs, together with six Montse’s own songs that reflect the multiple influences she has assimilated with a constant and careful dedication along her already extensive career, influences that have gradually taken a big effect both in her personal and professional life The vocal exposure and the personal way Montse displays the repertoire, always chosen with great commitment, makes it become a beautiful portrait of the various facets where she feels comfortable and totally relaxed On the other hand Sister Marion brings her always wonderful good taste and variety to the piano, which makes her able to not repeat tempos or riffs, drawing with her right hand a great diversity of delicious piano phrasing along the whole album, always performed with an extreme care and elegance This is simply a delicious recording
