I completely agree with the small paragraph Soul Bag French magazine say about this duo on isssue 174: ‘Many european white musicians believe they play blues when they are only playing folk music This happens with the Spanish duo Big Mama & Joan Pau Cumellas A well performed and sung work that will surely be nice on stage but probably will not satisfy purists’ ‘En El Nom De Tots’ can be defined as a folk album (it even includes a ‘tango’ song ‘Blues for Argentina’) I also agree with Soul Bag that Big Mama is a singer and performer who really shines on ‘live’ shows instead on recordings and I am sure those of you who know her and have followed her musical career will agree with me In this cd Montserrat Pratdesaba (her real name) sings in English Spanish and Catalan and plays guitar too, while Joan Pau Cumellas gives us some unbelievable harp playing with an splendid technique and imagination although his virtouso playing sometimes lacks of the necessary feeling required to play the musical style both musicians control
