M.C. Records releases a posthumous album from Big Jack Johnson, where you will find him on vocals, mandolin and acoustic guitar. The recording includes nine blues in the purest down-home blues tradition which had not been released before, that now see the light for the pleasure of every blues lover. The songs come from two different recording sessions both held in Memphis. The first one comes from 1998 he performed with Alabama bluesman Wild Child Butler, who sang and played harmonica on four songs. The second one was recorded in 2000 with harmonica player Kim Wilson in five songs. Both sessions were recorded at Memphis Sound Works Studios and I can only say they are really delicious.

For Mark Carpentieri, president of M.C. Records, has been a great satisfaction to find these recordings and now publish them in an album where listeners will immediately discover the genuine way Big Jack Johnson performs blues, besides appreciate his sense of humor and the feeling he communicates in both sessions. On the other hand, Wild Child Butler and Kim Wilson, both playing harmonica in a totally acoustic way, provide the necessary tone, skill and dynamism to round out a superb and magnificent album with the most genuine and real ‘back porch blues’.

Let’s eagerly thank Mark Carpentieri for releasing this album that becomes a precious treasure for all Mississippi rural blues lovers, besides let us enjoy the mastery performing of the great Big Jack Johnson.
