Undoubtedly singer, guitar and harmonica player Big Dave McLean is one of those legendary musicians who helped to give shape to Canadian blues scene.

Born in the 50’s, he soon settled in Winnipeg where he started his musical career. There he was known as the “prince of the prairies”, learning from musicians like Muddy Waters, he had the pleasure of back in different shows during the seventies. Now Big Dave is a respected and admired musician, not only for his wide career, but also for the feeling he communicates in each and every one of the explosive gigs he does around Canada. His passion he communicates with his playing has attracted many young musicians like Colin James, Shaun Verrault or Luke Doucette who consider him a teacher and a hero and have also become his outstanding disciples.

Along the album songs, Big Dave McLean shows his knowledge of the various blues styles that have deeply influenced him, from Chicago blues to Delta blues or even Texas blues, which faithfully capture the personal way he has to communicate and develop the blues, thanks to his special vocal register, his guitar and steel guitar mastery but, especially, the intensity he gives to each of the fourteen album songs.

Dave has also chosen some musicians who provide the necessary support and quality to make every song sound bright, like Jesse O’Brien on piano, Jim Bowskill on bass, double bass, guitar and harmonica, Steve Marriner on drums, harmonica and rhythm guitar and finally Dave Mowat on harmonica and backing vocals.

A blues recording without unnecessary ornaments, sometimes rough and gritty, but always genuine and full of sincerity.
