After the success of the previous album Faded But Not Gone, Black Hen Music record label decided to publish a second one by this veteran bluesman called Big Dave McLean Influenced by the great Long John Baldry, Big Dave has for decades performed and given the blues all over Canada His impact among fans has gradually improved, thanks to the undeniable quality and the special way he deals with blues, always from the outlook of the true tradition and respect for the genre The delivery and passion he communicates when he dives himself in the blues are really effective McLean is pure, intense and warm blues and he successfully reflects his positive attitude in this new work entitled Better The Devil You Know A selection of thirteen magnificent, well developed and complete songs round up the new album of this blues gentleman who is singer, harmonica and guitar player Big Dave McLean This is a semi-acoustic album with an incredible sound, where Dave does a great work both singing and playing acoustic guitar, National Steel and harmonica, together with his band mates Steve Dawson on acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, pedal steel, mandolin, dobro and National Steel, Gary Craig on drums and percussion, Jon Dymond on bass and double bass, Kevin McKendree on piano and organ, Fats Kaplin on violin and mandolin and the wonderful backing voices of Ann and Regina McCrary This is a good recording that should be included in any good blues lover record collection
