Listening to Big Daddy Wilson no one would say Wilson did not discover the blues until the early 80’s in Germany where he became totally fascinated with blues Wilson was born in Edenton, North Carolina on a very poor family Every Sunday his mother and grandmother took him to sing at church trying to keep him out of drugs and bad companies In 1979, Big Daddy Wilson decided to escape from poverty He enrolled in the army and he went to Germany As said, in that country he discovered the blues and, in spite he was rather shy, he decided to devote his life to music and especially to the blues Since then on, Wilson has got a name and a reputation that has gradually increased, so now Ruf Records has bet for this amazing singer with this recording This album is a good example of Wilson’s personal growth, where you will discover all southern music flavours in a clever combination of blues, gospel, roots, soul and reggae Our man is backed by Paul Legramandi on bass and Cesare Nolli on guitar, keyboard, drums and percussion, plus a handful of good guest musicians such as Eric Bibb or Ruthie Foster Wilson feels comfortable in all mentioned styles, showing his skills to let us appreciate the excellent vocal tones and the colourful voice variations, which are broad and diverse
