Fantastic and admirable blues and soul singer Big Daddy Wilson pleasantly surprises us with this new release entitled “Hard Time Blues”. Wilson comes from a small town called Edenton, North Carolina. He and his sisters were raised by their mother and grandmother who, every Sunday, took them to the local Church, where Wilson started to sing, although he never thought that one day he would do it on stage. After leaving the school he joined the Army and then travelled to Germany. He missed so much his own city streets and way of life that he asked permission to travel for a couple of weeks back home. Back in Germany and after some time there, Wilson met a German girl. They fell in love and finally got married. It was around this time that Wilson discovered the blues. He was totally caught, so he decided and began to devote himself to sing blues in a professional way. He also decided to settle in Europe as did other legendary blues musicians like Memphis Slim, Champion Jack Dupree, Eddie Boyd, Louisiana Red or Luther Allison. This new recording has a better sound than his previous ones, because Wilson displays a good and interesting range of textures, colors and sounds, all framed in the most absolute blues but, at the same time, he introduces some new concepts and sonorities that give a cool vigorous air to his compositions.
