These two Big Bill Broonzy cds are really amazing, not only for the cover design but also for the music included and the inner comic strip Big Bill began on music playing violin Then he became a preacher and moved to Chicago in 1918 It was there where he learned to play guitar with great musician Papa Charlie Jackson, who was an expert on banjo blues playing In the middle of the twenties Big Bill Broonzy already was one of the better and most versatile guitar players on town, because he could skilfully play all different afroamerican music styles, from ‘hokums’ to blues or ragtime These two cds are a complete review of his whole musical career, from 1930 to 1956, two years before his death Forty-eight songs and more than two hours and a half of music have been included on this splendid cd, with a careful faultless song selection You will find him backed by such great musicians and friends like BlackBob, Blind John Davis, Josua Altheimer, Memphis Slim, Washboard Sam or Big Maceo among other historical blues names
