After twenty-five years together and a fruitful career, French band AWEK can be considered as one of the best groups not only in its country but also at a European and international level. Led by singer and guitar player Bernard Sellam, her repertoire is nourished by West Coast, jump and Chicago blues they perform with an amazing feeling and outstanding knowledge. Also remarkable is Stephane Bertolino’s creative and engaging work on harmonica, pulling out a big greasy tone in the path of harmonica players like Rod Piazza, George ‘Harmonica’ Slim or Kim Wilson. Joel Ferron on bass and Olivier Trebel on drums provide a solid rhythm base which gives a firm consistence to the music they perform. With fifteen songs written by Bernard Sellam and sixty-six minutes of good music, this album –number twelve of his career recorded during the hard times of confinement-, confirms the undeniable quality and the good work of a band which can be included among the best actual blues ones. If you see AWEK is playing in your town, don’t miss the show, but if you are not able to enjoy them live, get a copy of this album. I’m sure you will not be disappointed. Pure BLUES written in capital letters.
