Born in Russia but settled in Vancouver, Canada, Arsen Shomakhov is a more than interesting guitar player, singer and songwriter who now releases a new album, with the goal of attracting and seducing wide audiences To do so he has selected ten own compositions that cover a wide range of styles such as rockin’ blues, funky bogaloo, jump blues, rhythm and blues, rock ‘n’ roll and even he dares with some ska or reggae, that is to say, a little bit of everything seasoned with a distinctive very special touch The album was recorded at the famous Kid Andersen’s studios Greaseland in San Jose, California and he also plays bass, double bass, hammond, piano and vocals, together with drummers Alexander Pettersen and June Core and harmonica player Aki Kumar who contributes in the opening album song Arsen appears as a competitive, elegant, imaginative guitar player, who knows how to give a powerful sound to all songs, as well as an economical appealing phrasing he accurately doses He also gives free rein to a variety of musical resources in a simple but very effective way This is an album that deserves a very good rating
