Alias Smith & Jones is a duo formed by powerful singer Reneé Flemings and harmonica player Sal Carolei, a musician who has also worked with Eliza Neals and The Travis Miller Band. Both artists form a well matched team, where each musician contributes to highlight the qualities of the other one. They now present a new recording, where they have surrounded themselves by a good number of musicians grouped under the name of The Button Men and featuring guitar players Jack Morer, David ‘Doc’ French, Michael Hill and Paul Bauman, drummers Michael Fox, Barry Harrison and Will Saint, bass players Jerry Dugger and David J. Wasserman and keyboard player Marc Lindahl. All of them help to enhance Reneé Flemings’ vocal skills, as you will immediately realize listening to the song “Bad, Bad Whiskey”, a version that his original composer piano player and singer Amos Milburn would probably feel proud if he had been able to listen to it, or the excellent Sal Carolei’s harmonica work in songs like “Gone” or “Going Down The River”, this last one coming from Mississippi Fred McDowell. Ten tracks that combine originals and covers give shape to an album where listeners will find a good content full of bright moments.
