Alan Wilson was one of the most famous white blues musicians of the sixties and seventies who unfortunately left us when he was very young and still had many things to say and offer to their followers Gifted with a special talent for playing and feel the blues, Wilson played guitar, harmonica, a little bit of piano and sang with a personal falsetto, he copied of his childhood hero, bluesman Skip James who, in his turn, had copied it from another totally unknown prewar rural bluesman called Lane Hardin, a musician who practically did not record in his life I would suggest you to listen to his California Desert Blues, to realize what I say Alan Wilson died at the fateful twenty seven years, like so many other blues and rock great names, from Robert Johnson to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin or Jim Morrison among others, or Sean Costello in recent years This double album gathers all the material he sang when he belonged to Canned Heat All these songs let us see how great he was, the clever mind he had for blues and his commitment as nature defender His special and original way of singing and playing harmonica or slide guitar become evident in every song he performs and the deep intense feeling he gives to his blues is really amazing and, at the same time, show a transcendental romantic very significant spirit, that comes from his the deepest part of his soul and heart, on a desperate emotional depressing storm In fact, depression was present in his young and brief adult days and was the cause that unfortunately took him to his death, with a conscious, deliberate and searched drug overdose he took in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by his beloved trees and birds, in full nature This is a historic double album, full of real truthness, brilliant sonority, psychedelic blues, all perfumed with an honest cool swing and, of course, with the invaluable collaboration of Larry Taylor, Harvey Mandel, Henry Vestine, Fito de la Parra or Tony de la Barreda A priceless double album, that becomes basic and essential in any record collection
