Undoubtedly Al Basile is an original very special man He is a poet, stage and radio writer, singer, composer and cornet player Playing this last instrument, Basile has backed many musicians, some more popular than others, of his good friend Duke Robillard’s catalogue Al Basile started to work as a writer but since the moment he met Duke, his life made a total turn He participated as trumpet player in the renowned band Roomful Of Blues and he also backed such great musicians like Eddie ‘Cleanhead’ Vinson, Red Prysock, Helen Humes, Joe Turner or Johnny Shines He also found time enough to devote himself to teach and he founded his own record label Sweetspot Records, publishing artists like The Blind Boys of Alabama, Scott Hamilton, Jerry Portnoy, Sugar Ray Norcia, Sista Monica Parker, Bruce Katz, Sax Gordon or Doug James The thirteen songs that form Basile’s last work are an original combination of the lyrics by this excellent poet and the music of this experienced musician who already has a long wide career on his back His musical influence, mainly based on blues, becomes unique for the new generations, as it shows that an artist may remain independent and faithful to his principles and values and, at the same time, produce an accessible commercial work You will also find as supporting musicians Duke Robillard on guitars, Mark Teixeira on drums, Bruce Bears on the keyboards, Brad Hallen on bass and double bass, plus an excellent horn section with Doug James on tenor sax, Carl Querfurth on trombone and Basile himself on trumpet, vocals and song arranger A really joyful album!
