Cedar County Cobras’ new record “Sinners & Saints” is a vibrant and honest love letter to the roots of American blues, that masterfully captures the raw, sweaty energy of their live shows and perfectly packs it in the recording studio.

The album brightly balances between the shadows of swampy blues and the brightness of tunes conceived to get your feet moving. Hailing from Iowa, the band shows off a remarkable songwriting maturity, seamlessly weaving everyday small-town stories with musical legends and explosive heartbreaks.

The instrumentation shines from start to finish, powered by downhome acoustic guitars and a rootsy, folk foot-stomping rhythm section. One of the album’s real gems is “Motorbike”, a track that turns a gravel-road journey on a beat-up little motorcycle into the best way to escape from rural monotony, also enriched by Dave Moore’s harmonica. On the other side, tracks like “Matches & Gasoline” take listeners into much thicker landscapes, turning small-town gossip and toxic relationships into highly addictive, burning blues.

The album also finds some space for satire and humor on “Guitar Zero”, a song that celebrates old-school virtuosity with an unmistakable funny wink. Even when they dive into heavier, more reflective lyrical tracks, the general spirit of “Sinners & Saints” looks for a permanent boogie, delivering a real breath of fresh air in front of complex daily life problems. The Cedar County Cobras present a consistent recording that strengthens their timeless, acoustic sound, which makes this record become an absolute must-listen for any blues lover.
