If I am not wrong, this is the debut album of Norwegian band Good Time Charlie, a hidden gem of Scandinavian blues that exudes genuineness and a deep-seated passion for the traditional sound of white West Coast jump-blues bands.

Initially recorded in the middle of the 90’s, the recording masterfully blends original material with covers, that become a perfect balance between high-energy swing and the Chicago blues grit. Arle Hjelmeland’s harmonica and vocals are the real outstanding features, delivering a raw, straightforward performance, while the guitar work and rhythm section provide strong, danceable basis.

Despite their European roots, the band’s sound feels totally American, showcasing a deep respect for the genre’s tradition. Tracks like “Boogie Man” or the album titled one “Coming Down With The Blues” stand out for their infectious shuffles and late-night juke-joint atmosphere.

This is an essential spin for traditional Californian blues lovers who look for both high-quality musicianship and a breath of fresh air. A crystal production allows harmonica and guitars to stand out in every song, driving listeners to a truly immersive listening experience. An excellent introduction to a band which has gained growing prestige over the decades. VERY GOOD.
