Born in Memphis into a musical family rooted in Delta traditional styles, gospel and blues, singer Candice Ivory felt the call of the blues when she was very young. Thanks to his uncle, blues singer Will Roy Saunders, she started singing professionally at the age of fourteen in the bands of some legendary artists like Billy Gibson, Calvin Newborn, Charlie Wood or CYC. Besides learning acting, Candice began her musical education at New School University in New York, taking singing lessons with Carmen Lundy, Miles Griffith, Richard Harper and Junior Mance, as well as composition with Cecil Bridgewater. When she was twenty-one, she recorded her first solo album and today she lives in Saint Louis where she has begun an ascending career that has led her to make several tours around USA and Europe, besides having been nominated for the Grammy Awards.
Currently Candice Ivory is a singer endowed with a great expressiveness who, deeply rooted on solid blues basis, dares to develop hypnotic, wrapping songs full of diverse and attractive textures that drive us to the landscapes of USA deep south.
The album gathers fourteen songs that will allow listeners to appreciate the wide range of her vocal tones, together with the influences of artists like Memphis Minnie she pays tribute with two songs “World Of Trouble” and ·Shout The Boogie”, or her uncle Will Boy Sanders, leader of The Fieldstones, in the song “I’m In Trouble”. The album also features the special collaboration of Jimmy “Duck” Holmes on guitar, David Evans or Andrew Cohen, as well as the young blues musicians that form her band and other actual blues new values like Jan Hartman, Antonio Vergara, Takuto Asano and Yubu Kazungu.
A good decision of Nola Blue Records to release this excellent recording as, not in vain, they are always watching out for high quality music.
