At the end of last month, we gave airplay and review to the first album of the trilogy that Dutch singer and guitar player Markus K, now living in UK but performing as a street musician all over Europe and the rest of the world, has devoted to experiment with the looper technique. This technique consists of recording a quite short musical phrase and then reproducing it on a non-stop loop while the musician adds his improvisations, voice, composition or even playing a complete song.

In this second recording, Markus has included thirteen songs he has selected over fifty sessions he has performed on the street in more than fifteen countries between October 2022 and September 2023. All the songs were recorded live to be later remastered in studio, and present a rich variety of nuances, not only thanks to the looper technique but also for the versatility that Markus gives to every song that, despite the hypnotic repetitive rhythm that the looper technique provides, each one has its own personality and drives us to a different and special universe.

Although blues can be found in most of his compositions, they are framed in styles such as psychedelia or deep dark rock. Practically every song was recorded in a different city and become a good example of Markus’ ability to create diverse and varied sound universes.

Our man can manage on his own to compose songs that little by little catch us. In this second album of the trilogy, he has counted with the collaboration of Rolan Haulin on harmonica, David Langlet on trumpet and Marga Fernández on sequenced voice, each of them in one song. VERY GOOD.
