Few Spanish bands have the knowledge to perform West Coast blues, swing, jump blues or jazzy rhythm and blues with the same reliability than American groups and big bands. The Groovy Four is the exception and, if you listen to this album, you will be immediately driven to those 40’s dance halls and cabarets, where these styles were performed every night.

The group is led by Martín Burguez, a guitar player and singer born in Uruguay, who musically grew up in Argentina and now lives in Barcelona. Martín learned from the great masters like T-Bone Walker, B. B. King, Pee Wee Crayton or Freddie King, so he has now got a fined technique that makes him a connoisseur of the just mentioned styles.

Both playing on a sextet or on a quartet format, which is how this album has been recorded, Martín and the musicians who back him show their professionalism, as well as the outstanding knowledge and technique they treasure.

The Groovy Four include Martín Burguez on guitar and vocals, Arnaud Desprez on tenor sax, Oriol Fontanals on double bass and Pascal Mucci on drums, all of them musicians with a huge experience and good practice of the ground where they stand.

The album gathers ten songs, five of them Burguez’s own compositions and the rest very attractive versions of songs like “Blues In C Sharp Minor” coming from Teddy Wilson, “Stuffy” by Coleman Hawkins, “Baby Let Me Hold Your Hand” by Ray Charles, “Scartunas” by Oscar Alemán and “Dancer Delight” by Sax Hill.

A perfect album to dance, but also to listen to it carefully and enjoy it.
