After eight years of silence, legendary Chicago singer Nick Gravenites releases a new album for M.C. Records. In the fifties and sixties Nick was a passionate rebel blues teenager who every night went to Chicago blues clubs where he had people like Michael Bloomfield, Elvin Bishop or Paul Butterfield as best friends. He soon became a singer and songwriter and, when Butterfield recorded one of Nick’s songs called “Born In Chicago”, he started to be well known among blues community, working and writing songs for many great artists like Janis Joplin (in fact, he was member of her band The Big Brother & The Holding Company), Mike Bloomfield, Tracy Nelson, Roy Buchanan, Howlin’ Wolf or James Cotton. In his own words, “it was blues heaven in Chicago in the late fifties and early sixties”. Today, Gravenites lives in California and still performs a few select shows.

The album was recorded between 2022 and 2023. Nick is backed by musicians like Charlie Musselwhite, Pete Sears, Jimmy Vivino, Barry Sless, Wally Ingram, Lester Chambers (Chambers Brothers), Willard Dixon, Keith Baltz and Roy Blumenfeld.

Six own compositions plus the version of Chester Burnett’s “Poor Boy” give shape to a recording where, despite his age, Nick Gravenites shows he still keeps a voice ready to communicate the necessary feeling to make listeners appreciate his blues.
