Steve Howel was only thirteen years old when he first listened to Mississippi John Hurt playing fingerpickin’ country blues. This opened him the doors to a new musical universe. He began to feel interested and study acoustic guitar players and black folk-blues singers coming from both the Delta and Piedmont areas. Later on, he was also interested by New Orleans music of the early twentieth century and, of course, by pop, country or rock, although his main interest was mainly pre-war blues.

With this album Steve Howell comes back to the roots and origins of the eldest, deep and sincere blues, with eleven songs that belong to some of his most admired heroes like Blind Lemon Jefferson, Reverend Gary Davis or Blind Willie McTell, displayed with intensity, feeling, respect and admiration for that fantastic universe that only the blues is able to communicate. All the songs were composed at the beginning of the last century and in them Howell shows he is an expert and master of fingerpickin’ technique, as well as a sincere story teller, of those that can still be found in some deep south areas, playing in any of the back porches of those country houses.

An album that allows listeners to enjoy again those songs that today are practically forgotten, but that belong to the rich and historical blues legacy.
