Texas singer and drummer Donald Ray Johnson has devoted his whole life to music He has played with legendary artists such as Big Mama Thornton, Percy Mayfield, Lowell Fulson or Phillip Walker, but he has also performed other music styles like rhythm and blues or disco music, collaborating often with The Isley Brothers, The Commodores or Teddy Pendergrass In recent years Johnson has come back to the blues, working regularly with French group The Gas Blues Band, which was formed five years ago by guitar player Gaspard Gas Ossikian, a band that also includes Philippe Pompon Scemama on bass, Yannick Papayan Urbani on drums and Pierre Little Peter Cayla on guitar too This is a superb album which gathers eleven blues songs Johnson and The Gas Blues Band have played together over the years, so the result is a magnificent recording with an excellent series of blues played with the intensity these good French musicians have, who always do a good work and really know how to fully convince listeners The Afroamerican Ray Johnson feels very comfortable backed by The Gas Blues Band, so he gives the best of himself to raise the blues to an exceptional high quality level This is a magnificent recording to have on mind
