Although you may believe that the hard bluesmen lives belong to the past, there are still musicians who have discovered the blues in difficult circumstances and, thanks to that, have become great artists. This is the case of Mark “Muleman” Massey, a man who grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi, surrounded by blues, although music did not matter much to him at that time. It wasn’t until he was imprisoned in Parchman Prison, like Leadbelly, R.L. Burnside or Bukka White,\u00a0 that he discovered the true meaning of blues. While he was in prison he met David Kimbrough, son of legendary bluesman Junior Kimbrough, who taught him to play blues and included him in the prison band, The Parchman Prison Band. When Mark got out of jail, he decided to turn that negative experience into something positive and, at the end of his working day as a farmer, he started to play guitar and sing blues at the juke joints in the area. He soon built up a successful career performing in well-known clubs like Ground Zero or The B.B. King on Beale Street. Harmonica player Blind Mississippi Morris of the Center for Southern Folklore became his mentor, teaching him the rich legacy of the great blues masters. Besides opening for B.B. King and sharing stage with Bobby Rush or Eric Gales, Mark has come back to the prison, this time to teach other inmates to find the music way.<\/p>\n
Mark now releases this fantastic album with eleven songs that show his impressive vocal qualities as well as his performing good taste on a repertoire that, without forgetting the most traditional blues, adds some soul and rhythm & blues elements, developed with conviction by an artist who will certainly win the favor of fans.
