Bear Family Records presents on its “Rocks” collection a series of excellent albums that collect the beginning of rockabilly and rhythm & blues. This impressive volume features some of the most iconic artists of the 1950s, most of them Afro-American ones, who widely contributed to the birth of rockabilly and rock and roll.

This album is a real treasure, not only for the most reluctant fans of those styles and, of course, for blues followers, but also for all those who have not lived that particular time but who love these musical genres too because, thanks to an unbeatable selection of performers, it allows listeners to discover the real origins of a true musical revolution that deeply shook and changed the way of conceiving twentieth century popular music.

All the artists included are undeniable masters and deserve a prominent place in any record collection, both for their quality and for the innovation that, at the beginning of the fifties, meant the appearance of musicians like them who, besides being black people, were able to shock and turn upside down the musical scene that was led by white people and infected young people with a new music conception, where there were neither social classes, nor racial discrimination or ideologies, because those styles united and connected young people from all parts of USA and around the world.

Listeners will find a magnificent selection of performers and songs, originally recorded for Atlantic label, all of them forefathers of what would later become rockabilly and rock and roll. Simply mention names like Fats Domino, Champion Jack Dupree, Lloyd Price, Little Richard, Junior Parker, Jimmy McCracklin, Arthur Crudup, Jimmy Reed, Roy Milton, Chuck Berry, Piano Red, Big Joe Turner… to complete a list of thirty artists who make this album reach an incalculable historical value but, at the same time, give listeners joy and fun with the genuine originality, rhythm, honesty and deep feeling of all these remarkable songs.
