Like many other dark bluesmen, venerable harmonica player and singer Willie Foster was born in Leland, Mississippi, in September 1921 When he was seven years old he bought his first harmonica for 25 cents, he earned carrying water buckets for two weeks When he was 17 he saw playing live Sonny Boy Williamson and Muddy Waters, so he decided to travel to Detroit, where he worked for three years in different car factories But talking exclusively about his music career, it should be mentioned Willie was playing during the 70\u2019s in different clubs and jukes of Greenville area, Mississippi, along with Frank Frost and James ‘T-Model’ Ford among others In the 80\u2019s he formed a band called Rhythm And Blues Upsetters and in the 90\u2019s he traveled to New Zealand, working extensively with Midge Shagrat\u2019s band It was during those years when Foster had an unfortunate accident in his feet, which had to be amputated, leaving him disabled and in a wheelchair for the rest of his life His first album was released in 1993 by RMD Music Company and shortly after he released two more for Palindrome Label These last two cds of his career we are reviewing now were recorded in 1999 and 2000 and represent the most pure Willie Foster\u2019s style, where he displays all her deep expressive strength and passionate love for the blues, giving us an emotion and charisma that can hardly be expressed in a short written lines You should hear these two albums to understand and feel the impressive things an eighty years old man is still able to make us feel in a few songs Unfortunately Willie J Foster was a poor man during his whole life and he barely had money to enjoy a happy relaxed life Foster died of a heart attack on May 20, 2001<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
