Little by little, but with a firm and continuous step, Vanessa Collier is reaching a high position in the actual blues and rhythm & blues scene and, despite her youth, today she has already achieved the recognition she deserves. Not in vain Vanessa is an excellent sax player and singer, as well as a composer and mastering other instruments like flute and slide and resonator guitars. She has also been four times Blues Music Awards winner and has received other distinguished awards.
Born in Texas, she grew up in Maryland, began her career in Philadelphia and currently she lives in South Carolina. From a young age she was interested in music, listening to a wide variety of musical styles. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, she joined legendary Joe Louis Walker’s band until she decided to start a solo career.
This is her sixth recording where Vanessa has decided to drink from the sources of the original blues, rhythm & blues and Memphis soul sound, employing the real sonority of recording in analogue with tube amplifiers, always looking for the original sound provided by excellent horn arrangements and well-matched second voices.
Vanessa has been totally involved in the recording because, besides singing and playing sax, she has composed all the album songs, has done the whole production, horn and vocals arrangements and she even plays electric and acoustic guitar and flute in some tracks.
Eight own compositions make up an album that oozes quality from all sides and also features such great musicians like Laura Chavez on guitar, Reverend Charles Hodges on Hammond, Doug Woolverton on trumpet, Scot Sutherland on bass, Byron Cage on drums, Trey Macias on percussion and Maureen Murphy’s voice on two tracks.
