The chemistry that appeared between two great musicians like Lluis Coloma and “Blue Lou” Marini has led to the release of an excellent album.

Everything started when Lou Marini (Blues Brothers, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, Aerosmith, Buddy Rich…) and his friend Walt Fowler from James Taylor’s band were on vacation in Spain with their families. James Taylor was on tour, and he performed in Madrid in a trio format. He called them asking where they could meet for a drink and listen to good music. Lou suggested going to Café Central where Lluis Coloma and his band were performing. Lou brought his sax with him. James was surprised by the quality of the band he was listening to and stayed there all night long. Lou joined the group, and the result was three nights and six shows of intense music with Lou as a special guest. Later on, Lluis traveled to New York, and at Lou’s home, they worked together on those songs they had played in Madrid that now give shape to this album. Although the songs were recorded in a studio, all of them keep the essence, the energy and the feeling of those unforgettable nights at Café Central.

The album includes five Lluis’ own compositions, plus three coming from Marini and four versions, which immediately allow us to guess how intense those three nights at the Café Central were.

Lluis’ quality as a piano player is undeniable and, if we add Marini’s professionalism, skills and groove who, in the album plays tenor sax, flute and clarinet, together with a perfectly assembled band with Kid Carlos on guitar, Manolo Germán on bass and Arnau Julià on drums, the result is a fantastic recording that, as a person who was right next to me told me at one of Lluis’ live shows “his music fills you with energy but, at the same time, with a relaxing feeling that gives you peace and happiness”.
