Born in Rouston, Louisiana in 1998, when he was only two years old D.K. Harrell first listened to B.B. King and began to imitate him. He started singing in the local church choir and, only aged twelve, he got his first guitar, which allowed him to compose his first songs. He spent hours and hours studying B.B. King’s videos and learning not only his way of playing but also his staging and how he led the shows. His first paid gig was at the B.B. King Symposium in Indianola where he performed an incredible version of “The Thrill Is Gone” playing with Lucille, B.B. King’s iconic guitar.

Although his greatest influence is B.B. King, Harrell has also drunk from other great blues musicians like Albert King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Johnny Copeland or Muddy Waters, without forgetting his skills as a composer. Currently he has become a real phenomenon that has put the blues scene upside down, not only by his youth but also by the impressive guitar technique and the feeling his voice gives off in all the songs he performs, that are always framed in the most genuine blues but that also become totally contemporary, which have made him be one of the outstanding 21^st century blues stars.

This is his first album for Alligator Records and has been recorded at Greaseland Studios under Kind Andersen’s supervision. Twelve songs that serve to savor, enjoy, dance and get moved by this new blues sensation called D.K. Harrell. The album features Kid Andersen on rhythm guitar, Jim Pugh on piano and organ and Andrew Moss on bass, plus an impressive cast of guest musicians, including drummers June Core and Derrick “D’Mar” Martin, a fantastic horn section and different vocalists like Tia Carroll, Cathy Lemons, Alabama Mike, Anthony Boyd, Deb Lubin or Lisa Leuschner Anderson.

With artists like D.K. Harrell, the future of the blues is in good hands.
