It is always remarkable that a musician coming from another country than the USA can perform rural blues and folk with the same intensity and conviction that a Mississippi born one would do. This is the case of Camilo Restrepo, an artist born in Medellín (Colombia) but who has been caught by blues and traditional folk, which led him to travel to the United States and later to Canada where he currently lives. You can regularly find him in Toronto, at the Drom Tavern where, only backed by his guitar and his impressive voice full of nuances, delights a devoted audience which comes to see him night after night.

Now we have the pleasure to savor this little gem with nine songs that drive us to the most essential blues, masterfully developed by an artist who really lives and feels the blues as if he had been born in the heart of the Delta, thanks to splendid versions of such classic songs like “Candyman” by Mississippi John Hurt, “Ragged & Dirty” by Willie Brown or “Homesick & Lonesome” by Blind Boy Fuller, although he also includes a few story-tellers’ compositions like “Moonshine” by Bob Dylan, “Jelly, Jelly, Jelly” by Dave Van Rock or “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen. In all of them Camilo shows his knowledge, respect and passion for country blues, the style which has captivated him from his very young age, showing he is a reliable performer who keeps alive the most genuine blues, always developed with great mastery.
