All good Chicago blues fans were looking forward to the release of this album coming from veteran singer, guitarist, but over all harmonica player, Al Miller, a quite unknown musician outside the Windy City area This white artist was already playing in the South Side in the middle of the sixties, as member of Johnny Young band and together with Chicago Slim During 1969 and 1970, he was playing with the great Mike Bloomfield in San Francisco Shortly after he returned to Chicago and, in 1995, he recorded his album Wild Cards for this same Delmark label Finally it has now appeared this album with some wonderful recordings originally done in year 2000 An accurate selection of seventeen Southside Chicago blues classics, performed with inspiration and feeling and a real, very genuine sound You will find Miller’s own songs, together with some others coming from Elmore James, John Primer, Eddie Taylor, Johnny Young or Willie Dixon Al Miller, harmonica and vocals, as well as guitar on a couple of songs, is backed by some big names of Chicago blues scene, such as guitarists Billy Flynn, John Primer and Dave Specter, bass player Harlan Terson, drummers Willie ‘Big Eyes’ Smith and his son Kenny Smith or piano players Barrelhouse Chuck and Ken Saydak, among other musicians A first class album, where quality is totally guaranteed, that will completely satisfy the most purist fans of real Chicago blues with its vintage sound
